Think a great deal about death and think how, when you die, you are only shedding your hitherto sick body like so much old clothes in order to receive a more beautiful, a purer new body in the heavenly world in the company of creatures of bliss. Think a lot about this heavenly kingdom. This will give rise in you to an affinity with such heavenly kingdoms, so that nothing will do but that you come into one. If you fill your spirit with such thoughts, how can you still be sad, not to mention weep? More likely, quiet cheerfulness will take hold of you and you will be able to endure ailments calmly, come what may. What can happen, after all, except that you go to a heavenly world, if, as I have just said, you think so. And are you going to be afraid of that and weep about it? You should be overjoyed, and you can, if you follow my prescription. All people, all creatures whatsoever, have to die; even an illustrious person must. And people get upset by such thoughts. Do you get worked up when the sun goes down in the evening? Why not? Why should you, when tomorrow morning the sun will come up over the horizon again? We, too, sink down into death, only immediately to rise again in a new form. Actually, I have been thinking about death for years and from doing it have become ever more content within.
